About Goonhilly-6
Built by Mitsubishi in 1985, GHY-6 (also known as Merlin) is Goonhilly's largest antenna, with a reflector diameter of 32 metres and a tracking structure weight of 410 tonnes.
Originally designed for C/Ku-band geostationary satellite communications, the antenna has recently been upgraded to support S/X-band lunar and deep-space missions in a 3-year programme funded by the Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Local Enterprise Partnership, the European Space Agency (ESA), and the UK Space Agency.
